How the split calculator works
Add everyone in the group, up to 12 people, then enter each expense with who paid and who shared it. Leave everyone selected for an equal split, untick people who were not there, or turn on unequal shares when someone should pay double or half.
The calculator adds up what each person paid and what each person owes, rounds every share to the cent so the total always matches, then finds the smallest number of repayments that settles the group. Nobody makes three transfers when one is enough.
Share the result with a link or download it as an image for your group chat. The link carries the calculation after the # sign, so nothing is stored by Partly. For ongoing groups, the Partly app scans receipts and keeps balances up to date as new expenses come in.
Expense splitting calculator FAQ
Is this expense splitter free?
Yes. The calculator is free and does not require an account.
How does the calculator decide who pays whom?
It totals what each person paid and their share of each expense, then minimizes repayments between debtors and creditors.
Can I exclude someone from an expense?
Yes. For each expense, select only the people who should share it.
Does this calculator replace the Partly app?
No. It is designed for a quick one-off calculation. The Partly app saves your groups and history, supports invitations and receipt scanning, and keeps future expenses and balances updated.
Can I share the result with my group?
Yes. Share result sends a link, and Download image saves a picture for your group chat. The link keeps the calculation after the # sign, a part of the address that browsers do not send to our server, so Partly keeps no copy. Anyone with the link sees the same result and can adjust it.
Can someone pay a bigger or smaller share?
Yes. Turn on Unequal shares for that expense and give each person a number: 2 pays double, 0.5 pays half, 0 pays nothing. Shares are rounded to the cent and always add up to the expense amount.
